Ph.D. Students

Eileen Brister
Eileen is in the fifth year of her Ph.D. studies, majoring in hearing science with a minor in physics. Eileen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in 2015, majoring in speech and hearing science. Eileen completed the first year of the Au.D. at Indiana University before transferring to a Ph.D. program.

Eileen's research focuses on the middle ear, structure and function, in vertebrates. Data for her research is primarily collected at the Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, using phase-contrast micro-CT x-ray imaging of the middle ear.

Eileen is mentored by Robert Withnell Ph.D. of Indiana University, Yi Shen Ph.D. of the University of Washington, and Claus-Peter Richter Ph.D. of Northwestern University.

Mackenzie Mills
Mackenzie is in the fourth year of her Ph.D. studies, majoring in hearing science with a minor in biology. Mackenzie received a Bachelor of Science degree from Indiana University in 2017, majoring in speech and hearing science.

Mackenzie's research focuses on cochlear mechanical function in the normal and disordered ear, in mammals. Data for her research includes otoacoustic emissions, auditory electrophysiology, measurement of the endocochlear potential, and results of cochlear histopathology.

Mackenzie is mentored by Robert Withnell Ph.D. of Indiana University, Yi Shen Ph.D. of the University of Washington, Laura Hurley Ph.D. of Indiana University, and Kevin Ohlemiller Ph.D. of Washington University.

Au.D. Students

Bailey Henderlong
Bailey is in her second year of the Au.D. program at Indiana University. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University in 2018, majoring in psychology. Bailey is interested in pathophysiology of hearing loss, adult diagnostics, and implantable auditory prosthetics. She has accepted a third year externship position at the Louis Stokes Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio with a long term goal of focusing on adult cochlear implants.

Hailey (Moon) Houston
Moon is a first year Au.D student at Indiana University. She graduated from the University of Houston in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders and a double minor in Kinesiology and Applied Linguistics and studied abroad in Bangkok, Thailand at Mahidol University. She completed an undergraduate Honors thesis, April 2020, titled "A Comparison of Speech Patterns in Children with Cochlear Implants and Their Peers with Normal Hearing", this work presented at the 2020 ASHA convention. Moon is interested in mammalian auditory function, implantable auditory prostheses, and adult and pediatric diagnostics. In addition to her clinical Au.D., she plans to continue on to the Ph.D program with an undecided focus at this time. Moon is currently participating in a Work Study in the front office of the IU Hearing Clinic and will study for the Animal Audiology Certification program at the University of Cincinnati.
